Seasonal Allergies "After more than a decade of sinus headaches, sneezing, itchy eyes and general misery all Spring long, I decided to try Chinese medicine on the recommendation of a friend. I visited Jeanne regularly during the last two allergy seasons. I still can't believe the difference! My symptoms have steadily decreased and I can now enjoy the outdoors year round. I even feel increased energy and sleep sounder. Jeanne saved my Spring!" -Marsha Goldstein, NYC

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
"After surviving a massive accident in which I broke 3 ribs, my sternum, my hip, and nearly every bone in my face, in addition to cracking my skull and undergoing life-saving brain surgery, I started to have major stress issues soon after. Although I had a miraculous physical recovery, the damage to my energy and balance was overwhelming. I was struggling with panic attacks, hemorrhoids, and disturbing thoughts. After just a few weeks in acupuncture therapy, Jeanne's healing power radically shifted my entire body system. The hemorrhoids went away, the panic attacks ceased, and my mind came to be at ease. I am so lucky that I met her. Though I had never used acupuncture before, I am definitely a convert. It is so much less invasive, less costly, and less impersonal than western approaches in the clinic or hospital. On top of that, Jeanne is extremely friendly and caring. Give it a shot, if you know whats best for you."

To women trying to conceive "I would like to spread the word about acupuncture with Jeanne Atkin to those women who are trying to conceive. After about 8 IUI attempts and one unsuccessful IVF treatment, I was open to anything that may improve my chances. I read dozens of articles about acupuncture and fertility and asked my doctor at my fertility clinic for his advice. He was surprisingly positive about studies that have shown acupuncture to increase the chances of conceiving. So, I decided to try acupuncture even though I had never gone for acupuncture before. I was referred to Jeanne Atkin by another acupuncturist and began consistently going for weekly treatments before my 3rd IVF treatment. To my surprise, I found the acupuncture treatments with Jeanne Atkin had a number of benefits:
− While my treatments varied depending on what stage of my IVF cycle or pregnancy I was in, I was often able to feel increased circulation as a result of the treatments. Jeanne spent time before each session understanding how I was doing and explaining why and what treatment she was giving me. This openness made it easier for me to have confidence in the treatments and be relaxed.
− Because I was seeing her regularly, Jeanne was often able to integrate treatments for non-pregnancy related conditions – like stress from work, a cold, etc. Jeanne also gave me lots of helpful advice along the way to help me with the discomforts of pregnancy.
− I found the nearly hour-long treatments to be deeply relaxing; I usually fell asleep during the treatment! I’m convinced that setting aside one hour a week for my own relaxation helped foster a successful conception and healthy pregnancy.
− Jeanne has more extended evening and weekend hours than other places I considered, so I was actually able to keep up weekly visits despite a demanding work schedule.
− Jeanne is genuinely motivated to make it easier for new people to try acupuncture; she’s not just trying to get more work. For example, she was clear that I didn’t need to come every week later in my pregnancy (but I’ve continued anyway).
Nine months later with a healthy baby boy due to arrive soon, I can say with confidence that acupuncture played an important role in my being able to conceive and maintain a healthy pregnancy. One more reason to try - my teacher in my birthing class just recommended acupuncture to prepare for a safe & healthy delivery by starting four weeks prior to the due date."

Partial prolapse of the pelvic floor "Jeanne is a true healer and the most wonderful alternative medicine practitioner with whom I have ever worked. She has treated me for so many ailments--from the purely mundane (flu, cold, arthritis) to an incredibly complicated (at least to Western doctors) post-partum condition.
Let me share with you how she helped me during and after pregnancy.
Jeanne first treated me in the last four weeks of my pregnancy to tone and facilitate an optimal environment for the baby as well as to ensure that the baby would not be breach. After giving birth to my son, I was left to heal a 4th degree tear as well as partial prolapse, which was never even properly diagnosed by doctors. Because Jeanne is a certified herbalist, she prescribed royal jade cream for my stitches. With this cream, not only did I never get an infection but when the doctors looked at the wound after four weeks, they said that they had never seen anybody heal so quickly. My stitches, they said, looked "beautiful." She also did acupunture to help with the nursing and advised me with diet and nutrition that increased my milk supply. The acupuncture also helped me feel better in general, stronger, less tired, and clear of mind. Once I stopped breastfeeding I began treatment with her for partial prolapse of the pelvic floor. With herbs and acupuncture I saw a concrete, noticeable improvement. It saved me from having to have surgery. Jeanne has a calm, nurturing and soothing personality which is so important, in my opinion, for being an acupuncturist. I have always looked forward to my appointments! She spends as much time as needed, never rushing you or making you feel like your time is up. And she is very holistic--she asks about every aspect of your life and believes that it is all relevant to your physical health.
I felt so well taken care of with Jeanne. Please feel free to contact me about Jeanne as I recommend her unconditionally!"   Eva Woods, NYC

Interstitial Cystitis "I started going to Jeanne after I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, a chronic bladder disease.  She was the second acupuncturist I tried, I did not have any success with my first acupuncturist . After just one treatment I began to notice less pain in my pelvis - and my other symptoms began to disappear.  Eventually I became completely healed.  Jeanne is a warm and understanding woman, who was easy to talk to about my embarrassing bladder issues.  She, without a doubt, helped to heal me.  I have been seeing Jeanne now for about a year, I was going every week...now I go about once a month.  I feel everyone could benefit from having treatments with Jeanne.  After my first treatment, I tried to describe to my husband what I felt like. I said "I feel really relaxed, but not tired...I feel really energized, but not shaky like when I have coffee." He said to me "Honey, what you feel is called calm..."  Everyone should feel that calm in life! If I could see Jeanne every day - I would! I highly recommend her for what ever ails you. Even if you are well, her treatments are great for preventative health."   P.T., NYC

Debilitating Knee Pain "I was suffering from debilitating knee pain for about eight months before consulting with Jeanne Atkin and was very apprehensive about trying acupuncture. But she really put me at ease and was able to make such a positive impact that not only did I become comfortable with the sessions after the first two, but actually looked forward to them! I started to feel better after just a few sessions and now feel almost back to normal. My seasonal allergies have gotten better also!!! I've learned that Western medicine doesn't always have all the answers!!!"   Jeannie Kim, NYC

"Tendonitis is an occupational hazard for me as a musician. I have been a patient of Jeanne Atkin for over three years and I continue to benefit from each treatment I receive from her. She has treated me for a variety of ailments, from chronic bronchitis and respiratory conditions, to tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Thanks to Jeanne's treatments, I finally survived several winters without serious respiratory problems. The tendonitis has been greatly reduced by the treatments, which combine acupuncture, tui na and herbal liniments.  She is a devoted and compassionate practitioner who applies her knowledge of TCM to whatever difficulties I am having. Jeanne is an invaluable person in my health care, from whom I am so fortunate to be able to receive treatment."  Diana Smith-Barker, NYC

Acupuncture and herbal remedies have worked wonders with my body  "Jeanne Atkin, who performs acupuncture and prescribes herbal remedies in Northern Manhattan, has worked wonders with my body. The office, on the gentrified northern slopes of Washington Heights, is immaculate and immediately soothing. After I let her stick needles in me and I took my herbs like a good patient, my chronic cough, my urgent bladder cleared up and my lower back stopped hurting within days. After a few sessions, my lipedema (a chronic swelling in my legs) had gotten noticeably better.  Jeanne also tweaked my diet a bit and, as a result, I effortlessly lost ten pounds. She's very intuitive and doesn't go to extremes. Friends of mine continue to come uptown just to see her. I can't recommend her highly enough."   Marissa Piesman Hudson Heights, NYC

Eye Strain  "I'm a Columbia University student living in Washington Heights who didn't believe much in holistic or new age-y medicine. Then I came down with a problem with my eyes that my western doctors couldn't fix. A friend recommended I visit Jeanne and I was in enough pain to try it. After two treatments the problem became manageable again and after a few more it disappeared. I've been back for stress, back pain and general wellness. Jeanne is a fun, engaging professional. I can't recommend her enough."    M.Shea, Washington Heights

Pleasantly Surprised "Having recently moved to Washington Heights from Manhattan's upper east side, I was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent holistic health care practice right across the street from my home. I first started acupuncture treatments with Jeanne for an acute lower back spasm which left me nearly incapacitated. To my amazement, it was resolved in only two sessions. During those sessions Jeanne noticed my swollen feet and legs. I told her that I had suffered from lymphedema for nearly 50 years since the age of 18.  In those years I had been seen by many physicians and specialists, all of whom said that the most that could be done was palliative. She suggested trying acupuncture and herbal medicine. After working with Jeanne on a regular basis using acupuncture, tui na massage and herbal medicine I am ecstatic with the results! At my annual check up my internist was startled to notice the dramatic difference in my feet and legs. The swelling had been diminished significantly.  In the first course of treatments with Jeanne the swelling was up and down but persistence has paid off and I have now maintained that reduction in swelling and am able to walk for much longer periods of time pain free.  The results that Jeanne has achieved with me are indeed remarkable."  Cecile Grossman - Washington Heights, NYC

More essential than food  "I don't think I could survive living in New York without seeing Jeanne Atkin every week. For everything from mysterious yoga injuries to allergies, she has a way of getting it to go away. Without regular treatments, New York's high-stress lifestyle would have done me in long ago. She's incredibly knowledgeable, and also very caring and laid-back. I've been going to acupuncturists for 20 years, and Jeanne's the best!"

Thoughtful and Conscientious Practitioner  "Jeanne Atkin, M.S., L.Ac. has been my acupuncturist and colleague for a good while now and I am most grateful and impressed with her in both of these roles. Her commitment to her clients is as deep and genuine as her understanding of the complex subtleties of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. As a health care practitioner myself (I am a licensed massage therapist) I am always seeking excellent practitioners to refer my clients to when their needs to not fall within the scope of my practice and I am extremely particular who I refer my clients to. I always feel confident in recommending Jeanne, knowing that they will receive thoughtful and conscientious treatment in her care. I highly recommend Jeanne Atkin to anyone seeking healing through Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine."   Alison Laird Craig, LMT

Treatment of injuries  "Not only is Jeanne Atkin my acupuncturist but I refer patients to her as well. As a former dancer, current yoga teacher and weekend warrior, I have found her treatment of injuries which includes a combination of acupuncture, tui na and herbal poultices and liniments and chinese herbal therapy has hastened the healing of my sports and chronic injuries remarkably. Combining all of these modalities with some simple tips on the importance of certain foods and qi gong rehabilitative exercises has helped me to play a part in my recovery and be able to get back out there as soon as possible. Visiting her beautiful space and seeing all the bottles of linaments, pots of steaming herbs and herbal pastes is always a treat! As a colleague (I too am an acupuncturist) I am impressed with her dedication to post graduate studies with her mentors Tom Bisio & Frank Butler whom she continues to learn from by assisting in clinic and studying with in their school. As a patient I recommend her treatments to all those professional artists in the Washington Heights area who haven't found her yet!"
